Flower Essence Remedies
“Treat the cause, not the effect” Dr. Bach
Dr. Edward Bach was a 19th century British medical doctor frustrated with the limitations of the standard treatments of his time, despite the fact that he was a successful surgeon, bacteriologist, and pathologist. Dr. Bach felt orthodox medicine was patchworking rather than healing. In 1930 he abandoned his lucrative London practice of allopathic medicine, and embraced a more intuitive and primal way of healing, following the rhythms of the seasons and looking to the earth and it’s plants for healing. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of modern homeopathy, was of great influence to Bach and like Hahnemann, Bach believed that by studying the patient’s mental-emotional attitude toward life and their environment, important connections to the patient’s disease could be made. (Sort of like how all those weird aches and pains go away after you break-up with the wrong guy!)
I love this quote of Bach’s: “Seek the outstanding mental conflict in the (being), give (them) the Remedy that will overcome that conflict, and give all the hope and encouragement you can, then the virtue within them will, itself, do all the rest.” I find this wisdom very similar to what we hear from our Chinese medicine doctor, Dr. Ma. I also think that’s what we sought to do with FORD in the last years of her life- support her desire to live and thrive on her terms (no extraordinary measures) and she found the will to overcome her decline and have a thriving life long beyond any of her doctors’ predictions! :)
We have used flower essence remedies in our family for many years and believe several of them have been particularly helpful and healing. Others dismiss them as too weak to be effective or simply a sham.
Bottom Line:
Not a silver bullet. As one old doc said to me once, “Might not cure ya, ain’t gonna hurt though.”
We use flower essences as a part of our overall health plan. We sell only the 5 essences we use regularly.
Oh yeah, and we use ‘em with our dogs!

RESCUE REMEDY: Bach’s most famous Flower Essence formula, Rescue Remed is a synergistic combination of five essences: Cherry Plum, Clematis, Impatiens, Rock Rose, and Star of Bethlehem.
Rescue Remedy is an all natural form of healing that we use everyday in the dog’s water and directly in mouth or food during times of stress or trauma. We concur with Dr.Bach and are convinced that RR does reduce anxiety and helps restore a sense of calm and control.
Crab Apple- known as the cleansing remedy; recommended for excessive licking or dogs who chew themselves raw (might be good for a dog who is de-toxing from allergies)
Mimulus- for storm phobia and other known fears
We swear by Mimulus! FORD was extremely thunderstorm phobic for 13 years and once we put a few drops in her mouth at the beginning of a nasty storm, she calmed right down and quit pacing, burrowing, or hiding.
Our holistic Vet says it’ll either work for them or it won’t. For us, THIS ONE WORKS!
Rock Rose- this essence is one of Bach’s core in the RR formula- for fear, panic, extreme trauma; used after accident or trauma or to fortify courage
Walnut- our standard for times of change and transition; especially when moving or during family changes
